About Platter % Taxes

Overview

Tax settings in Platter allow you to create and manage percentage-based taxes from the Back Office. Each tax configuration can include one or more tax rates.

Taxes are assigned to menu categories. Items created under a category automatically inherit its assigned tax configuration, helping apply consistent taxes across your menu.

Prerequisites

Before configuring taxes, ensure that:

  • You have Manager or Admin access to the Platter Back Office.

  • You know the tax names and rates required for your restaurant.

  • Your menu categories are set up.

  • Your POS devices are connected to the internet to receive updates.

Steps

Access Tax Settings

  1. Log in to the Platter Back Office.

  2. Navigate to Settings > % Taxes.

  3. Review the existing tax configurations. Each card displays the configuration name and its tax rates.

Add a Tax Configuration

  1. Click Add tax.

  2. In the New tax panel, enter a descriptive Name for the configuration.

  3. Select the required tax from the Tax name dropdown.

  4. Enter its percentage in the Tax rate field.

  5. If the configuration requires another tax component, click Add tax rate.

  6. Select the tax name and enter the rate for each additional row.

  7. To remove an unwanted row, click the trash icon beside it.

  8. Review the names and rates, then click Submit.

Edit a Tax Configuration

  1. Locate the tax configuration on the Taxes page.

  2. Click the pencil icon on its card.

  3. Update the configuration name or tax rates as required.

  4. Submit your changes.

Note: Review the configured rates before assigning a tax to a category. A configuration’s name may not reflect its current rates.

Assign Taxes to a Menu Category

  1. Navigate to Cuisine Hub → Categories.

  2. Create a new category or edit an existing one.

  3. Select the appropriate tax configuration in the category’s tax field.

  4. Save or submit the category changes.

  5. Items created under that category will automatically inherit its assigned tax configuration.

For more information, see Managing Menu Categories.

Sync Changes to the POS

  1. Confirm that the tax configuration and category changes have been saved.

  2. Ensure the POS device is connected to the internet.

  3. Allow time for the updates to sync.

  4. Verify that items from the category apply the expected tax on the POS.

Troubleshooting

Tax Is Not Applied to an Item

  • Confirm that the item belongs to the intended category.

  • Check that the category has the correct tax configuration assigned.

  • Make sure No Tax has not been selected unintentionally.

  • Confirm the category is active and its changes have been saved.

An Incorrect Tax Rate Is Applied

  • Open Settings > % Taxes and review the rates within the assigned configuration.

  • Check the actual rates rather than relying only on the configuration name.

  • Confirm that the item’s category uses the intended tax configuration.

A Tax Configuration Cannot Be Submitted

  • Ensure the Name field is completed.

  • Confirm that each row has a Tax name selected and a Tax rate entered.

  • Remove any incomplete or unnecessary rows.

Changes Are Not Reflecting on the POS

  • Confirm that the tax and category changes have been saved.

  • Check the POS device’s internet connection.

  • Allow time for syncing, then refresh the POS app and verify again.
