About Using the Kitchen Display System

Overview

This article explains how the Platter Kitchen Display System (KDS) displays order tickets, how ticket statuses work, how to update ticket progress, and how to use filters such as booking type and kitchen profiles.

Prerequisites

Steps

Viewing Tickets on the KDS

When an order is sent from the Platter POS, it automatically appears as a ticket on the KDS screen. Each ticket contains essential information.

Information, such as:

  • Table number (for dine-in orders)

  • Invoice ID

  • Order type: Dine-In, Takeout, or Delivery

  • Customer name (for Takeout/Delivery orders)

  • Time elapsed since the order was placed.

  • The user who sent the order

  • Item names and quantities

If multiple items belong to the same table or order, only one ticket will be generated, showing all items together.

Kitchen Ticket Status Colours

Platter KDS uses colour-coded statuses to show the current state of each order:

New (Grey):

  • The order has just arrived from the POS.

Preparing (Orange):

  • Kitchen staff is currently preparing the order.

Ready (Green):

  • The order is complete and ready for pickup or delivery.

Served:

  • The ticket moves out of the active view and into the served history section.

Updating Ticket Status

To change a ticket’s status, double-tap the ticket:

  • Double-tap to change from New > Preparing

  • Double-tap again to change from Preparing > Ready.

  • Double-tap again to change from Ready > Served

For orders with multiple items, Platter KDS also allows updating individual item status:

Example: An order contains two items

  • Item 1 is ready

  • Item 2 is still being prepared.

  1. Double-tap only that item which is ready.

  2. That item turns green while the others remain unchanged.

  3. This allows the kitchen to manage split preparation times within a single ticket.

Enable the Total Item Count in the KDS

  1. Navigate to Settings > Kitchen Profiles in the Back Office.

  2. Select the applicable kitchen profile and click Edit.

  3. Scroll to the Layout section.

  4. Enable Show Items Summary.

  5. Click Submit to save the changes.

Once enabled, the KDS will display the total quantity of items that need to be prepared.

Clearing All Tickets from the KDS

  1. Log in to the KDS.

  2. Click the Configure menu.

  3. Select the applicable Kitchen Profile.

  4. Click Clear All Tickets.

  5. Confirm the action when prompted.

All tickets associated with the selected kitchen profile will be cleared from the KDS.

POS Device Sync

When the kitchen staff updates the status of any specific item, the POS device immediately displays the updated status in real time:

  • If an item is marked “Preparing,” the POS shows “Preparing” for that item.

  • If an item is marked Ready, the POS shows “Ready".

  • If an item is marked Served, the POS also shows “Served” inside the order details.

This creates perfect coordination between the kitchen and floor staff, so servers always know which items are ready, being prepared, or already served.

Viewing Orders by Status

The KDS has five status filter sections to help organize tickets:

  • Active: Shows all orders that are not served (New, Preparing, Ready)

  • New: Only shows newly arrived orders.

  • Preparing: Shows orders currently being prepared

  • Ready: Shows completed orders awaiting service or pickup.

  • Served: Shows the history of completed and served orders

Using the Configure Menu

Tap the Configure Menu button to access additional filtering and settings:

Booking Type:

  • Filter tickets by Dine-In, Takeout, or Delivery. Tap the selected option again to remove the filter.

Kitchen Profile:

  • Select which Kitchen Profile’s tickets should appear on this KDS screen.

Logout:

  • Returns you to the KDS login page.
