Navigating the Settings Section

Overview

The Settings section in Platter POS is a simplified configuration panel for the device you are using. Unlike other POS systems, Platter keeps device settings minimal within the POS app, allowing most configuration - such as menu setup, user roles, printers, and permissions - to be handled directly from the Platter Back Office.

In the POS app, the Settings screen is used to change the app’s appearance, view device and network details, and pair or re-pair your Bluetooth payment terminal.

Prerequisites

Before accessing or using the Settings screen:

  • Ensure your iPad’s Bluetooth is turned on

  • You have a supported Platter-compatible Bluetooth payment terminal

  • Your restaurant uses Stripe for card payments (needed for the Bluetooth terminal)

  • The terminal is charged and powered on

  • Your iPad is connected to the internet

1. Accessing the Settings Section

Steps

  1. Open the Platter POS app on your iPad.

  2. Log in using your PIN.

  3. Tap the Settings icon (gear) near the bottom of the navigation bar, in the bottom left corner.

2. Managing Theme Settings

The Appearance option allows you to control how the Platter POS application is displayed.

Steps

  1. Open the Settings screen.

  2. Locate Appearance under Theme settings.

  3. Select one of the following options:

    • Light: Displays the application using a light colour theme.

    • Dark: Displays the application using a dark colour theme.

    • System: Automatically follows the appearance setting configured on the device.

  4. The selected theme will be applied to the application.

3. Managing Hardware

The Hardware section displays important information about the POS device, application, and network connection. These details can help restaurant staff or the Platter Support team identify the device and troubleshoot connectivity issues.

Steps

  1. Open the Settings screen.

  2. Tap Hardware.

  3. Review the information displayed under Device details:

    • Device Name

    • Device ID

    • OS Version

    • Application Name and Version

  4. Review the information displayed under Network details:

    • Wi-Fi Network

    • Local IP

    • Gateway IP

    • Subnet Mask

  5. Tap Back to return to the Settings screen.

4. Setting Up Your Bluetooth Terminal

Steps

  1. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the navigation bar.

  2. Under Payment option settings, find Set up your bluetooth terminal and tap Configure terminal. This section only appears when your restaurant uses Stripe for card payments.

  3. Ensure your terminal is turned on and in pairing mode.

  4. A list of available Bluetooth devices will appear.

  5. Tap your terminal from the list.

  6. Wait for the connection to complete.

  7. Once paired successfully, the terminal will be ready to accept payments.

Troubleshooting

The terminal isn’t appearing in the list.

  • Ensure the terminal is powered on and in Bluetooth pairing mode

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the iPad

  • Restart the terminal

  • Move the terminal closer to the iPad

  • Restart Platter POS and try again

Terminal connected but not processing payments
