Choosing the best restaurant POS in Canada
There’s no single best POS for every restaurant. Here’s what to compare, and how Platter, Toast, TouchBistro, Lightspeed, Square and Clover line up for Canadian restaurants, based on each company’s public information.
What to compare
Total cost in Canadian dollars
Add up software, hardware, add-ons such as kitchen screens, and card processing. Ask for a written quote in CAD.
Hardware you can live with
Some systems need their own terminals; others run on iPads and phones you already own. Check what’s leased and what you own.
Delivery apps in your POS
If you take Uber Eats, DoorDash or SkipTheDishes orders, check which ones arrive in the POS directly in your province.
Contract and switching costs
Look at the term, cancellation fees and processing lock-in before you sign.
Support in your time zone
Ask how to reach support during service, and who sets up your menu and floor plan.
Quebec and French
Quebec restaurants need a system that works with Revenu Québec’s WEB-SRM. Confirm this before you sign.
