A note before you read: this post is written by Platter, a restaurant POS made in Canada. Platter is one of the six systems below, so we have an interest in your decision. To keep it fair, every statement about another company comes from the sourced rows on our comparison pages, is dated "as of October 2026", and links to the full page where the sources are listed. Prices and products change, so confirm anything important with each vendor before you sign.
There is no single best restaurant POS for every Canadian restaurant. The useful question is which system fits your service style, province and budget.
How to judge a POS for a Canadian restaurant
Total cost in Canadian dollars
Add up the monthly software fee per location, extra devices, kitchen screens, add-ons and card processing. Ask every vendor for a written quote in CAD so you can compare like with like.
Hardware
Some systems run on their own terminals. Others run on iPads, iPhones or Android devices you may already own. Ask what you have to buy, what is leased, and what happens to that hardware if you leave.
Delivery apps in your province
If you take Uber Eats, DoorDash or SkipTheDishes orders, check which ones arrive in the POS directly and whether that works where you operate.
Contract terms
Look at the length of the agreement, cancellation fees, hardware leases and any link between your POS and your card processing. If you are leaving a contract early, ask the new vendor whether they help with buyout costs.
Support
Ask how you reach support, in what language, and who sets up your menu, printers and payments before your first service.
Quebec and WEB-SRM
Restaurants in Quebec need a sales recording system that works with Revenu Québec's WEB-SRM. If you operate in Quebec, put this question first and ask each vendor for its current certification status in writing.
You can see the key rows for all six systems on one page in our Canadian restaurant POS comparison.
