Assigning a customer to an order in quick service mode

Overview

This article explains how to assign, change, or remove a customer on a quick counter (takeout) order in Platter POS.

The current iPad app has no separate Quick Service mode; counter orders are taken from the Takeout screen with New order. Although these orders can be placed without customer details, assigning a customer allows proper tracking of invoices, order history, and future reference.

Prerequisites

  • Active Platter POS login

  • User must have the following permissions:

    • Takeout Module

    • Payment Access

Steps

1. Create a Takeout Order

  • Tap Takeout in the left navigation bar, then tap New order.

  • Choose a Fulfillment method and tap Take order. You can also enter the customer’s phone number and name here.

  • Select items and tap Checkout until the invoice screen is displayed.

2. Add or Assign a Customer

  • On the invoice screen, tap Add customer at the top right.

  • You will see the Select customer list of existing customers. Use Search customer to find one quickly.

Option A - Select Existing Customer

  • Tap a customer in the list. Their details open.

  • Tap Select

Option B - Add a New Customer

  • Tap New customer

  • Enter the following details:

    • Phone number

    • Customer name

    • Email (optional)

  • Tap Add

  • The new customer will be added to the list.

  • Select the customer to whom you want to attach the invoice.

  • Once selected, the customer’s name appears at the top right of the invoice screen.

3. Remove a Customer from the Invoice

If the wrong customer was assigned:

  • Tap the customer name at the top right of the invoice

  • A Remove customer pop-up will appear

  • Tap Remove to remove the customer

The invoice will no longer be linked to any customer, and Add customer appears again.

4. View Customer-Assigned Invoices

You can verify customer assignment in:

  • Takeout screen - open (unpaid) takeout orders are listed with the customer name

Troubleshooting

  • If the Add customer option is missing, verify that the user role has permission to add and select customers.

  • If the customer does not appear in the list, search by name or refresh the POS sync.

  • If a customer cannot be added, confirm required fields (phone number and customer name) are completed.
